Are you a TechGirl and looking for some new skills? Maybe this article can help you with that! This article is a quick HTML lesson for starters.

The structure

Let’s start with the basic structure.

Doctype

Doctype is used to show your HTML version. !doctype html is HTML5. The latest version of HTML.

HTML

In HTML5 you use a HTML-tag. You’ve to put them around the complete document. You open the file with <html> and close the file with </html> This opening and closing system is typical behavior in HTML.

HEAD

The head-tag is a area in the code which isn’t visible in the browser. You can include meta tags, one of them is charset to specify the encoding of the characters in the document. You can use meta description to describe your website page and meta keywords to define search words.

Add a title-tag to give your website a title. In most cases people use there business name. In the head section you can add javascript or css files as well.

BODY

The body-tag is where it all happens. The content is placed between the body tags. It’s important to use headings in your body tag. You can use one h1-tag in the complete document. Other heading tags can be used multiple times (h2, h3, h4 etc). You use heading tags to create titles and subtitles in your documents.

To add hyperlinks in your content you can add an a-tag.

To create paragraphs in your content you use a p-tag.
